End of Year Letter

Good Afternoon Families,

I wanted to thank all of our families and wonderful students for a great school year. This year the students in each grade level have had many successes and experiences that will help them to continue to grow and learn. I am especially proud of the roll out of our Positive Behavioral Interventions and supports including staff creating and teaching the lessons that go along with all the three R's (respect, responsibility and resilience). The system that was trialed with handing out the paws and then the students taking home why they were pawsome was received positively by both families and students. I love when I see a student in the hallway or in class and they can't wait to tell me why they are Pawsome! I am also proud of the many grants that teachers and staff have written to  help support all our students with technology, mindfulness and much more.

Some other highlights of the year have been the learning showcases and having families come in to see concerts, view student work or participate in field trips and special enrichment programs offered throughout the year. Another highlight is when the students and families surpassed our goal of donating books to the classroom libraries for the month of January. We collected and distributed into the classrooms over 1000 books this year! We also contributed to fundraisers such as the Special Olympic hat day, food drives, school supply drive and packages for our military.

Celebrating reading month was also a fun and engaging way to encourage reading at home. The students enjoyed the different events including watching all the teachers who created a flip video of their favorite book and place to read. I hope that all students continue reading this summer and visit the Wilmington Public Library for their summer reading program. Also, please feel free to have your children write me a postcard this summer. I love receiving them and sending one back out to your home.

I also want to thank the PAC for helping with activities for our students throughout the year including enrichment programs that are always a hit. Please take a few minutes this summer to look on the PAC Facebook page for updated information and how you can help contribute. They run fundraisers and special events for students throughout the year and we really appreciate it. Also, I want to thank all the volunteers who come in weekly or even for a  day or field trip. Each volunteer is so appreciated and we enjoy having families in to help and support the classrooms. Lastly, I want to thank the teachers and staff who work diligently all year to engage, support, create, encourage and teach the children not only the academic requirements and maintain the rigor for student success but also on how to be good citizens and students.  They go above and beyond for students and it is truly appreciated.

There are many things to be proud of this year. I hope that families and students take some time to reflect on the year and the positive growth and progress each student has made.

Lastly, I will be posting my summer days on the blog in case families need to reach me. Please do not hesitate to reach out if anything should come up in the summertime or you need assistance in any way. I can also be reached via email and will return an email or call ASAP.

Reminder that Thursday is the last day of school and an early release day. Students will be dismissed at 12  noon. No lunches are being served and NO CARES. Please send in a note so that we know how your child is getting home.

Thanks again and have a great summer.
