October Updates!

Dear Families,

I can't believe the first month of school is almost completed. The students have adjusted very well to the first month. The procedures for a.m arrival and p.m arrival have been going great. Thank you! Also, buses seem to on track with pick up and drop off, so everything is falling into place. Thank you to families who attended open house a few weeks ago. I know that parking was very difficult this year and I am going to see about making sure that next year there are no field events taking place to support open house evening.

On Monday, September 30th we are having our first All School Meeting at 9:05. Students may wear their Shawsheen T-shirts or blue and white spirit wear.  We will be going over our 3 R's or respect, responsibility and resilience specifically focusing on the Paws being handed out, the bathrooms, lunch and recess areas. Thank you to our PBIS team made up of teachers, a parent, CARES staff, and shawsheen staff for all the dedication to continuing to make PBIS grow. As you are aware, classrooms who earn the most Paws at lunches get to have a picnic lunch on the Pawsome Picnic Grounds stage on Mondays. In addition, classrooms who earn the most stars for following the 3 R's in specialist earn the Golden Award for their classroom for the week. Our newest initiative this year is that we collect the paws in the office that the students earned all week and pick one paw out at on Friday. The teacher whose name is on the paw and the student is the winner. The prize is that the student gets to pick a brand new book for the teacher and dedicate it to the teacher or staff member from them for being Pawsome! We are so excited about this for both the students and staff. As you may be aware students also come home with a Paw when they earn one so be sure to ask them Why They Were Pawsome!

For the Month of October we have lots of fun things planned for students. Some families may be aware that October 7th is Stomp Out Bullying day nationwide. In support of this for the month of October, instead of doing one day focusing on this we are incorporating different enrichment programs focusing on kindness, inclusiveness, differences and being your best self. Included in this is Corey the Dribbler https://www.academicentertainment.com/dribbler on Oct. 3rd and our Author Visit on Oct. 8th https://www.ivysbook.com/. We are encouraging students and staff to wear blue on October 7th or their Shawsheen Shirts. We will also be having the WEF walk on Halloween day and more information will be forthcoming.

Shawsheen shirts have been ordered for all first graders, new enrollments and any students who wanted an extra one and submitted the form.

Please feel free to check upcoming dates that was sent out and attached to this form. Also, all notices are always added onto the Principal Blog and posted if you need reminders.  If you go to the blog https://shawsheenschool.blogspot.com/ you can add your email to get automatic updates sent to you. In addition, you can follow the shawsheen school on twitter. Lisa King

Thank you for all you do to support our students and have a great weekend,

Seeking School Council Members 2019-2020

Wilmington Public Schools
Shawsheen Elementary School
298 Shawsheen Ave

Dear Parent and Guardians:

The Massachusetts Education Reform Act provides an opportunity for parents, teachers, and administrators to work together on a School Advisory Council.  Some of the main areas of responsibility for school advisory councils have included adopting educational goals, identifying the educational needs of students, reviewing the annual building budget, revising student handbooks, and creating a school improvement plan.

At this time I am asking for your interest in serving on the council for this school year 2019-2020. In order to create parity, the number of parents serving on the council will be equal to the number of teachers and administrators who will serve. I am looking for two parents or guardians at this time.

For your information, the School Advisory Council meetings are conducted once a month after school. Meetings start at 3:00 p.m. Members are typically asked to serve a two-year term. If you are interested, please send me a letter of interest via email or mail and I will get back to you.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

Lisa King
Principal
