Great First Week!

Good Morning Families,

The students did a terrific job this week with transitioning back to school. Arrival and dismissal has gone smoothly. The buses are still running a little behind schedule in the afternoon but within a few weeks that should resolve itself. Just a few reminders that next week students will not be waiting outside with their teachers when they are dropped off by car rider or buses. They will cross over the crosswalk for car riders and go directly into the cafeteria from 8:30-8:40. Teachers are on duty to guide them and then at 8:40 they go to class. If they arrive after 8:40 they will be directed to go to their classroom. The doors close at 8:55. If you arrive after that time you will need to walk around to the front and sign your child in. In the afternoon for car riders, you must exit out the exit by the double gates. You cannot exit out the entrance until after 3:20. This is for buses only. There is a sign that states this so please help to keep all the kids safe by following the traffic signs and rules. In addition, you cannot go by a bus that has it's lights on or flashing. This means that students are either loading the bus or exiting. We appreciate your support in this.

We had our first fire drill today. The students did an incredible job. They were quiet and safely exited the building appropriately.

The staff have started to implement some of our PBIS lessons with students this and it will continue over the next month. You will soon be hearing about being Pawsome and start to see some Paws going home once we get underway. Next week Mrs. Gibbs will be showing the video on how to use our buddy bench at recess time as well.

Attached you will find an open house letter. In addition, attached is some school information that are inserts from our handbook. All of these documents and more can be found on the Principals Blog at https://shawsheenschool.blogspot.com/. You can go on the blog and enter your email address if you wish to get automatic updates.  Also, you can follow the school twitter for up to date information and school happenings. End of Year Updates

Good Morning Everyone,

We only have 4 and 1/2 days of school left. I wanted to remind families of a few things prior to the last day of school. Grade 3 field day will be tomorrow. We thought it was going to rain today! Monday is the grade 3 field trip to Odiorne point. On Tuesday, we are having an All School Meeting to wrap up the end of the year and it will be Island day. Students are welcome to dress in Island wear and the PAC has provided all students with leis to wear and keep. A letter was sent out earlier this month that all students will also receive a snow cone from Kona Ice.

Wednesday will be the last day of school and it is an early release day. Please be patient for dismissal as we usually have a lot of car riders on this day. No lunches will be served and there is no CARES. Also, I kindly ask that all parents do exit into your cars on Wednesday or move your cars to a different location if children are gathering. We need to be able to get the buses out so that all students can get home in a timely manner.

Report cards will go home on Wednesday. Please note that all supplies are listed on our website and have been updated. These are only suggested and students will be supplied with anything that they do not bring in.

Lastly,  I am happy to announce that we have found an administrative assistant for the Shawsheen Elementary. Thank you to my committee who helped during the interview process: Mrs. Reilly, Mrs. Burke, Mrs. Gibbs, Mrs. Doherty and Mrs. McDougal.

Jennifer Sirois is a graduate of Bridgewater State College with a BA in Elementary Education. She taught for several years but decided to leave the teaching position and utilized her computer and interpersonal skills to take on a receptionist job. She has skills in software, customer service, Microsoft word, google docs, and much more. She is flexible and understands the safety and security of the main office. She also is well versed about being a teacher, understanding families and the communication, organization and urgency that can take place in a school setting. She has a wonderful personality and will be a great fit for the Shawsheen.

You may see Ms. Sirois over the next week or so as she begins the transition process. Her first official day will be July 1st!

Please note that I will post my summer days on the blog and that I am also reachable by email. Also, students are welcome to send me postcards all summer long. I love reading them and writing back!
