Hour Of Code
Dear Wilmington Families,
This year Wilmington Public Elementary Schools are joining
millions of students all over the world for an Hour of Code during Computer
Science Education Week, December 8-14. During a computer lab session that week,
all of our classes will participate in a one-hour (or nearly one hour) activity
where students will work on a self-guided tutorial that introduces Computer
Science in a fun way.
We are inviting families to participate in the fun! Please
join us for an Hour of Code evening event at the Shawsheen School on
Wednesday, December 10th, or the Woburn Street School on Thursday, December 11th
from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. to work together on coding activities. Each student
may invite one guest and the pair must bring a device with wireless internet
access (laptops and tablets work best). An instructor will explain the Hour of
Code and guide the group through the activity. Read more about Hour of Code at
www.code.org.
We hope you can join us!

WEF WALK
The WEF Halloween walk is on October 31st from 1:15-1:45. Parents are welcome to walk with their children or watch as we go by. The children will be walking around the outside of the building weather permitting. Please be sure to package costumes with names on them and have all students wear sneakers. In addition, no masks or weapons. If children would like to wear Halloween colors that is fine too. Please remember that half of the funds raised go directly back to the school. Last year we purchased a Poster Maker that allows teachers to create a poster in color of any document that they choose. It has been a big hit! This year we are looking to purchase more school wide technology.
Thank You!

At the Shawsheen Elementary School our philosophy is to not only address the academic needs of our students but also to assist them in becoming good citizens. To achieve this goal, we are going to continue to implement a program called “Eight Keys To A Better Me.” This program will focus on one particular value a month (listed below). During that month the students will work on the specific value through school-wide activities.
October-RESPECT
November- PATRIOTISM
December-KINDNESS
January-COURAGE
February- HONESTY
March-FEELINGS
April-RESPONSIBILITY
May-SELF-WORTH

First Day Of School Is Approaching!
On Monday, August 25th the building will be open for all parents and students between 5:00-6:00 in the evening. Parents and students may come and visit their classroom and see where their desks are located and classroom location. This evening has been a tradition in the elementary schools and we feel that it helps to relieve some anxieties about the first day of school. Hope to see you in the evening on Monday or for the first day of school on Tuesday!

Whose Child Is This?
Whose Child is This?
Author Unknown
"Whose child is this?" I asked one day
Seeing a little one out at play
"Mine", said the parent with a tender smile
"Mine to keep a little while
To bathe his hands and comb his hair
To tell him what he is to wear
To prepare him that he may always be good
And each day do the things he should"
"Whose child is this?" I asked again
As the door opened and someone came in
"Mine", said the teacher with the same tender smile
"Mine, to keep just for a little while
To teach him how to be gentle and kind
To train and direct his dear little mind
To help him live by every rule
And get the best he can from school"
"Whose child is this?" I ask once more
Just as the little one entered the door
"Ours" said the parent and the teacher as they smiled
And each took the hand of the little child
"Ours to love and train together
Ours this blessed task forever."
