Upcoming Events and News

Good Morning,

Thank you to parents for shoveling through the snow and making sure your children arrived to school during these past few weeks. I can't believe it is already school vacation week. Please take time to enjoy your children.

When the children arrive back at school we will be have Read Across America Week. This will be a fun week where everyday is a different theme based on Dr. Seuss books. Please see below for the days. A notice is also going home today and we will do reminders daily for the students. Please do not go out and purchase anything for these days, just use what you have around the house.

Another event to look out for through the PAC is the Shawsheen/West Trivia night which will be held on March 10th. They are still looking for businesses to be sponsors. If you or anyone you know is interested please contact the PAC. If you would like to sponsor, please contact Sharon Lagunilla at pslags@verizon.net. There are a few tables left as well.

Wishing you all a great vacation week. We will see you all back on 2/27/17.

Check out our Kindness Hearts. They are growing. Feel free to continue to have your children send them in. We will introduce a new kindness theme in March!

Take care,

Mrs. King

Car Rider Arrival

Good Evening,

I sent out this post in December and I know that in the winter months we have more car riders than usual especially with the snow. We are having some difficulties getting all the cars through in an efficient manner. Please read below if you drop off in a.m.

I just wanted to remind families about our drop off procedures in the mornings. Recently, we have had an increase in the amount of cars dropping off and in order to make this an efficient process we encourage families to do the following:

* When dropping off, utilize the two row system. We have a crossing guard on duty from 8:30-8:55 a.m and she is there to be sure the students proceed safely along the crosswalk.

* Your child can get out of the car even if you are 2-3 cars back on either side and walk down the yellow line to the crossing guard and then proceed onto the white crosswalk. This will help with exiting and moving the cars along.

* If you would like to walk your child to the door, you must park in the lot and walk up to the crossing guard and utilize the crosswalk. If parents stay in the car when driving through and allow students to open the door it makes the process go much more smoothly. We really need your help with this.

* Lastly, any preparation you can do ahead of time to ensure that your child can exit the car efficiently will help move things along.

* As always, if you are finding that it is taking longer than usual (rainy day, project day, snowy day) please make arrangements to leave a few minutes earlier.

As always when the buses arrive we do our best to hold up the car riders to let the students get off the buses. No cars are allowed to pass a bus or are allowed to go around it when the lights are flashing or the students are exiting the buses. An administrator is on duty outside to help facilitate this daily.

Thank you all for helping to make his process work more smoothly,

Mrs. King

HAPPY FEBRUARY

Happy February,

Thank you and your children for a great January. Students celebrated their 100th day of school, some by dressing up and others by making 100th day posters. I saw many papers written by third graders on what they will be like when they are 100. They all did a nice job. Academically, we have just finished our benchmark testing in Aims Web and for reading students Fountas and Pinnel. Readers workshop is still underway and students are working toward more time being increased for reading independently and picking out just right books in grades 1 and 3. Grade 2 are continuing to dabble in readers workshop and the Fundations program for phonics. Just a reminder that students in grade 2 have access to Raz Kids, which is an online reading program with leveled readers and study island for math and reading.  In addition, grade 1 students have access to reading eggs and study island. Grade 3 has access to study island for both reading and math. These sites are tailored to your child's ability and is a great way to practice both skills for math and reading. In addition, the online Envisions correlates to what the students are working on by units. This site has games, the practice worksheets and much more. Please be sure to contact your classroom teacher if you need re-access to any of these online at home programs.
