March Upcoming Dates
Dear Families,
March Madness is upon us! March is an extremely busy month
and our calendars start to fill up with sports, concerts, and evening
activities. I wanted to inform families about some upcoming events in March so that
you can put these dates on your calendar and take a look ahead at the month.
Next week at the school we are going to be celebrating Dr. Seuss’s
birthday by doing a different fun school activity each day. We are calling it Read
Across America Spirit Week. All the
special things were sent home last week. Please do not go out and buy anything
to participate. These days are supposed to be fun for the students and the
staff as well. Each day we will feature
a different book.
Below is a reminder of the days.
Monday:
Cat in the Hat day. Wear your own hat!
Tuesday:
Fox in Socks day. Wear your crazy socks!
Wednesday:
Wacky Wednesday day. Wear mismatched clothes!
Thursday: Oh, the Places You’ll Go
Day. Come dressed like what you want to be when you grow up!

The Lorax Day. Wear a mustache! (We will
make these in school if you need one)

RMLD LED Save Energy Campaign
We have just completed our first full month of RMLD’s LED’s Save Energy Campaign.Congratulations to the Shawsheen School – you are in first place at one-third of the way through the Campaign.
Keep up the good work!
Would you please relay this information to your school parents as an incentive to purchase LED bulbs and surge protectors at 50% off the retail price on our online store www.rmld.com and their support to winning your school $2,000 of Energy Star equipment. I ask that you please also send this information to your faculty. I ran into a couple of teachers last week after a meeting and they had not heard of the contest. They can be very good supporters of this effort and make a difference in which school wins the $2,000.
Thanks so much for joining us in this Campaign.

February News
Welcome February!
We have had a busy first of the year with different enrichment programs and family events. Ooch was here last week and we recently had family literacy evening at the Woburn Street School. Students are settling back in to the routine and we have been very fortunate to have them outdoors for recess. We are about half way through Term 2 and teachers will be reaching out shortly regarding parent conferences for March. In addition, the staff is going to look at creating student norms for the building and establishing those before spring. We will share those out to parents for feedback prior to implementing them. We feel as a school establishing these set of expectations and norms through the entire building would benefit students and staff. I am looking forward to creating them. Also, our grade 3 MCAS will be taking place in March and in May. The DESE has changed some portions of the test and the ELA portion will now be covering 3 days. The third day will be under 60 minutes. I will send home a reminder once it gets closer. Included in students back packs this week is a Home and School Connection newsletter which includes tips on standardized testing , thinking games, parent power, pitching in at home and being a bystander when bullying is involved.
Reminder that Vacation is February 15-19th.
Thank you for your support and participation with your children. Have a great month.
Mrs. King
