February Updates

Happy Monday,

Thank you to all the families for all the book donations. We received over 100 books for the classrooms and for readers workshop.  Also, our Piggy Bank Coin challenge has been filing up for the PAC fundraiser. We will continue to be collecting coins over the month of February. The PAC also has an upcoming meeting on February 10th at 9:30 a.m if anyone wants to attend at the West School.  The PAC also sent out a letter collecting donations for raffles that they will have displayed during parent/teacher conferences. Please see the list for donations with your child's class number listed. Lastly, the PAC is having their annual trivia night on March 6th and has sent home a flyer for ticket/table purchases. Thanks again for supporting our PAC, students and school with these fundraisers.

We have some exciting things happening in this upcoming month. The second grade classrooms will be having the fossil presentation and Dinos from the Museum of Science next week. We will also be having Cupids Cafe this Friday the 7th in the cafeteria. We have done this for several years and the students love it. The cafeteria will be turned into a cafe for students with table clothes and decorations. Thank you so much to our amazing cafeteria workers for making this happen. 

We are continuing to give out PAWS to students through our PBIS initiative and our Pawsome picnic grounds is in full effect on Mondays. The specialists also give out golden awards weekly. At our last All School Meeting on Monday we talked about walking in the hallways with respect and responsibility especially when entering the building from buses or the cafeteria or transitioning to and from lunch. We will be having another All School Meeting upon our return on February 24th, so Shawsheen gear is encouraged!

Just a reminder that February vacation is scheduled for the 16th-23rd with school resuming on the 24th.

Happy New Year!

December Updates

Good Afternoon Families,
I want to thank all the families and students for the variety of donations we have received this year for various endeavors. As you may recall from a previous email the students sent over 600 items to the local food pantry, donated over 600 dollars’ worth of gift cards and kindness ideas for our Festival of Trees and lastly our donation bin for toys for Wilmington Children through the Wilmington Fire Department is filled! It is wonderful to be around such caring families and students. Around this time of year, it is nice to encourage and notice the 3 R's at the Shawsheen School (respect, responsibility and resilience). 
This week on Friday we will be having an All School Meeting and instead of wearing our Shawsheen shirts we are encouraging students to wear their favorite pajamas or comfy clothes. During our meeting we are going to do silent sustained reading together in the cafeteria as a group. Your child may bring in a favorite book from home, magazine, or book from the classroom. 
Just a reminder that Friday is a full day of school. School will resume on January 2nd.
Lastly, I just want to wish everyone a Happy Holiday and Happy New Year.

Students and staff are invited to wear pajamas or cozy clothes to school. We are also going to do 10 minutes of silent sustained reading together as a school during a portion of our All School Meeting on Friday!

Happy Snow Day and Updates

Good Morning,

I hope everyone is enjoying some quiet time at home with family as we are all snowed in! I wanted to send out a few updates for this week since our timelines have changed a little bit. Report cards were suppose to go out on Wednesday. Due to the two snow days, the report cards will now go out on Friday. Conferences will still resume on Thursday and the students will have an early release day. Just a reminder that no lunches will be served and dismissal is at noon. If your child is going home by a different means of transportation, please send in a note. Also, it is important that all guardians entering the building for a conference go through the front door. All doors will be locked as we still have CARES in the building. We also ask that you go out the front door as well to maintain safety. Thank you so much for helping with this.

Also, just a reminder that the Shawsheen Tree this year is called "Handing our Kindness" and is full of over 500 dollars worth of gift cards. The students also created fingerprints for the skirt of the tree. Look on twitter for a picture or go and check it out this weekend at the Festival of Trees.

We are also a collection spot in support of the Wilmington Firefighters for donations for Wilmington Children. Please feel free to send in any toy or donation (new) to the school for the bin or parents are welcome to drop off during parent/teacher conferences on Thursday.
